COMTE Citizen of: Romont (1432+), Lausanne (1544+), Bardonnex (1958) and Fribourg (Switzerland). Coat of arms: "D'argent à la grue essortante de sable semestrée en
chef d'une croisette de gueules".
Historical account of the Comte family: In 1404, at Vuarmarens lived Johannetus CONTOT, presumed founder of the present COMTE family (P.
Aebischer 1923). In 1432 the first Comte, Antoine, from Romont is recorded on a parchment in the archives and it relates to a demand from the Castle of Romont concerning a contribution to maintain the ramparts of the city. In 1482 Jacques COMTOZ is witness, following the custom of the period, with other nobles concerning the "ohmgeld," a small tax on wine to maintain the ramparts of the city. In 1544 Benoît Comte, originally from Romont, became citizen of Lausanne (Switzeland) and his wife, Perrone de la Flechere, brought to him the lordship of Max (source: Benoît de Diesbach - Fribourg CH).
